Born in Kin-Men, Hui-fen Yu grew up in a small mountain village in Zhoulan Town, Miaoli County. She went to college at Department of Radio & Television, National Chengchi University and later finished her MA program at Department of Humanities and Social Science, Tsinghua University. She saw stage play for the first time with her sister during her senior high school. Not only was she thoroughly absorbed in the performance, she was also helplessly enchanted by the charm of theatre in her first theatrical experience. In her freshman year of university, she became a member of U Theatre and was brought into the theatrical world. There she met her future husband, Wang Rongyu. . In 1993, Yu and Wang Rongyu together set up Golden Bough Theatre. Spending almost one-third of her life in Golden Bough Theatre, she was once actress and artistic director, and now she plays triple roles in the company as administrative director, producer and author at the same time. She is also the ¡§other half¡¨ of the artistic director, Wang Rongyu and mother of the little actor, Pinguo.
