The original title is a Taiwanese term Fu Lang Gong, which means a loafer. Set in the 1960s and 1970s, the play tells the story of A Cai, a loafer, who returns to his hometown after 15 years of wandering. First moved by the love story between a sailor and a betel nut beauty at Kaohsiung Harbor, the drifting A Cai eventually falls in love with the school principal’s daughter, Mei-zhi (who he already admires since his childhood) during his journey back to the hometown. At the same time, fishmonger Qing-shui begins to pursue A Cai's sister;uncle Taco hesitates to express his love for aunt Ai-jang. After many difficulties, the two couples (Qing-shui and Yulan, Taco and Ai-jang) finally tie the nuptial knots. Yet A Cai, failing to attract Mei-zhi, has no choice but hit the road all alone again alone with his leather suitcase. This play incorporates magic, musical numbers, colorful stage and costume designs to create common people's brisk atmosphere.
