abstractSynopsis:
This play was adapted from Homer’s epic, Iliad. It uses the Taiwanese poetry, Taiwanese rituals, traditional operas and installation art to re-interpret Western mythology, trying to express its anti-war motif through the horror of Trojan War. In its opening night at Hua-Shan Winery, director Wang Run-Yu was arrested for occupying the State-Owned Land. He was released after the artist community stood together to protest in front of the police station to help him. Their political action, however, made the establishment of Huashan Culture Park possible. This case became the first example showing how a performing group can challenge the authority and appropriate deserted space to perform.
