abstractSynopsis:
The play adapts Laurence Boswell’s version of the potent fairytale, Beauty and the Beast. Tainaner Ensemble stages a flea circus version to enliven this 18th French fairytale. Two years after the family went bankrupt, Beauty’s father finds his lost trade ship and promises to bring home gifts upon his return. He loses his way in a forest and finds a shelter in a castle. The merchant picks the most beautiful rose for Beauty as he leaves the castle but is confronted by the Beast, which demands the merchant’s life in exchange of its hospitality. Beauty willingly goes to the castle to save her father’s life. She finds the Beast a nice being and falls in love with him. Beauty breaks the curse and the Beast transforms into a handsome youth. He and Beauty are married and live happily ever after. Magic, acrobatics and gymnastics are applied to stage a colorful and joyful performance.
