abstractSynopsis:
This play, set in a restaurant in the countryside, told the story of six bums who spent most of their time in this eatery with the hostess. A couple of upper-class lovers sat in the corner and amorously talked to each other as if they were in their own world. Gradually the bums shifted their attention to this couple but they chose not to respond. Something terrible eventually happened. Its title European Dinner implies the play's intention to deal with social issues in Europe. Yet, its theme could echo the worsening economical situations in Taiwan. This play is written by Austrian playwright, JJ Schwab, one of "les enfants terribles" of the theatre of cruelty who specialized in portraying people from the lowest rank and their absurd living conditions. This is part of the "theatre of poh-poh" serial. A horrible man-eating story in a bistro.
