This play re-stages Beckett’s End Game in Taiwanese. The characters in the play are trapped in an empty, two-window room. All characters--the servant, Clov, who couldn’t sit, Hamm, a blind in wheelchair and his parents, Nell and Nagg who dwell in trashcan¡Xare indulged in their own memories and unconsciously murmur meaningless words to prove their existence. Lu uses the rhythm and rhyme in Taiwanese language to present the well-structured plot and melodic poetic languages of Beckettian plays. Staging a scene of destitute and desolation, Lu touches on the impossibility of human communication and the absurdity of human existence.
