This play was adapted from Japanese kyogen comedy. A grand master envies a talented servant, Wu-e and tries to kill him with some lousy excuse. Out of sympathy, the housekeeper secretly lets go of Wu-e and reports his false death to the grand master. Delighted by the news of Wu-e's death, the grand master invites the housekeeper to visit Qing-shui Temple with him. However, they unexpectedly run into Wu-e who happens to worship Guan Yin Goddess at the very same spot. Wu-e has a narrow escape by immediately pretending to be a ghost. Therefore, a hilarious "ghost" story is unfolded among Wu-e, the grand master and the housekeeper.
