abstractSynopsis:
Chen used the historical transformation of Deck Number 13 ;from a military harbor to a hot traveling attraction ;to symbolize the life facets and difficulties of three different generations--the elderly, the middle-ages and the youth. In the play, a married Taiwan businessman who lived alone in mainland China got swindled by his lover and his old neighbor. His old neighbor also strived alone in the mainland China, leaving behind his old father, who dreamed of going back to the Chinese Mainland, to be taken care of by the mistress of downstair grocery store. All led their lives with their own agendas. The typhoon that later approached the deck symbolized the storm in their heart. After the storm, the warmth and happiness in the family no longer existed.
