abstractSynopsis:
This play adapts Oscar Wilde’s short story, The Happy Prince, and employs "Rod Marionette, "(a famous style of string puppetry in Czech) to stage social class differences in children theatre. A rotary stage is positioned in the middle where stands the happy prince’s statue. Light changes, curtain, and scraps of papers indicate the change of seasons as the story proceeds. Two female puppeteers manipulate puppets of different characters and create various personas in this play. Aprons, berets, and puppets are props to identify their characters either as a story teller or the puppeteer. They also interact with audience in the performance.
