abstractSynopsis:
The story describes how a rich girl’s life takes a dramatic turn after her marriage. After marrying into an agrarian Hakka family, she not only needs to share the hard work of tilting the land but also needs to feed the huge family of 30 people. Her life in the new community is miserable. Apart from becoming a laughing stock of the neighborhood due to her pickle dowry, she is also nicknamed as "Lan-shi mei" (meaning lazy girl) because she is not adept at housework. Her miserable days do not get better until she encounters A-chou mei (meaning ugly girl), who tells her that finding fault is typical of this village. It doesn’t really matter if you do it right or wrong. Learning the fact, Lan-shi mei was eased and gradually became popular among the villagers. She proposed the idea of "course exchange" when the village was short of expenditure after the famine, inventing delicious Hakka cuisine with her soy sauce pickles. Hakka idioms and folk songs are incorporated to represent the unique Hakka culture. Actors take turn to tell their life stories themed by Hakka cuisine.
