Sis Memos for the Next Millennium was composed of five speeches by the famous Italian writer, Italo Calvino. The five pieces discussed five indispensable values of literature¡Xlightness, promptness, precision, transparency and versatility. Reconsidering the values, the play tried to imagine how they would be transformed in the next millennium. Yin-Chung Wei, the director of Taipei-based Shakespeare’s Wild Sisters Group, collaborating with composer Tochimura Yukiko of the Osaka-based Screen Touring Theatre Company , tried to extend the five values proposed by Calvino and reconsidered all essences of theatrical aesthetics. Emphasizing on the interplay between audio-visual display and physical as well as musical composition, Wei, through this play, hoped to find out "the indispensable essences of theatre".
