abstractSynopsis:
This play adopted the "Lo-di-sao" style (an outdoor touring style) popular in traditional Taiwanese opera. This play begins with a rich, powerful gangster-friendly merchant, Kao Fu Hsiung's election campaign. It depicted anecdotes and legendary events of Kao Fu Hsiung from his birth, to his prosperity, to family quarrel and to his political involvement. Chu uses Kao Fu Hsiung's rise and fall to exemplify Kaohsiung city's historical development, providing the local audience a new vision to reflect upon their own city.
