abstractSynopsis:
The play appropriates the life of Jiang Si-mei, the first female glove puppeteer in Taiwan to portray the rise and fall of tour stage plays in the course of time. The story begins with three female puppeteers’ finding Granny A-mei’s glove puppets in a case. The interaction of actors, glove puppets and table-up puppets reflects social development in Taiwan from 1950s to the present. Paper boards and sunglasses symbolize the drug sellers in puppet performance in night market. The play also juxtaposes traditional puppets and Jin-guang glove puppets to further contrast the traditional and contemporary puppetry.
