abstractSynopsis:
This play is inspired by Xiayu's poem, A Hell of Self: To Jorge Luis Borges. The symbolic physical movements of the actors all come from this poem, including sleep walking, raining, putting on shoes, and a recitation of part of the poem inserted in the performance. In this play, the identities of Borges were acted out by four actors. The only actress, Ma Zhaoqi, was a trinity of the narrator, the embodiment of the director's voice-over, and the females in Borges' life. All the actors¡' voices were strictly controlled to express the words in calmness like the flow of water. The audience can palpably see the lines formed by the actors' bodies.
