abstractSynopsis:
Wrong Tourism Of Taipei was about the city where we spend our days--Taipei. It is a relearning process of us as well as the city. The play departed from the idea of "guiding tour", which allowed travelers to grasp the real meaning of traveling, breaking the walls of everyday time and liberating themselves from the movement of quotidian life. Once liberated, the travelers would not only get into a new dimension of time in the swift changes of new environments but also constantly step in and out of different time zones. Using the alienation effect of "traveling", the play aimed to liberate the audience from the usual time and have a new understanding of "being present". As writer Lei Xiang said in "Fragments of City Image", "We don’t actually see ourselves. We see ourselves through the reflections we cast on others’ eyes¡Kthat’s also to say we cannot see the city we live in. Only when we are in other cities and look back to our own will its picture get clearer." For this reason, in addition to using the idea of "touring", the play shifted its perspective between "self" and "others". Aside from the local perspective of Taipei residents, there were outsiders’ perspectives. Using two points of view to see the city, Taipei, the play re-considered the meaning of "self" from cultural difference.
