abstractSynopsis:
Based on the poetry of Japanese and Hakka poetess, Yosano Akiko and Du Pan Fang-ge, the play combines both shadowgraph and paper-cut techniques to present a sketch performance with poetic imagination. With a projector operating in front of the audience and silhouettes of actors projected behind the screen, a visual effect of camera work and editing comes into view. The white projection screen extends to the stage, while its projections contrasting finely with the shadow of a wooden chair placed at left stage. Shadowgraphs including flowers, birds, fish, and hands along with shifts of actors' silhouettes and lighting effects such as trimming nails, snowing and raining, all synthesized to present crossovers and conversions of multiple space-times. Performers may occasionally show up in front of the screen, interacting with live shamisen players, and express different responses and connections to the lighting scenes.
