abstractSynopsis:
The story describes father-son relationship and the process of reconciliation. The father (a doctor) died in Africa when his son was five years old. Growing up without the father's guidance and care, the son grew up in sorrow and remorse. Years later, when he was helping his mother to sort the things left behind by his father's reli, he came across a pile of letters sent out by the Father when he was in Africa. Upon reading the letters, the son started a cross-time dialogue with the father. These letters cs. The letters found servehelp as a bridge to forgiveness and reconciliation, re-establishing the father-son relationship and resolving the son's loss. the son to overcome his resentment towards the father and strong sense of loss. In this play, puppetry is symbolic of memoriesdeployed to portray memories. For instance, lamp, cup and glasses in the father's room are applied in puppetry to represent the father's image. When the letters describe the landscape in Africa, cattail leaf fan and umbrella in the big box are applied to resemble the scene while actors' hand gestures imitate the movements of birds, elephants and giraffes to represent wildlife. At the end of the play, the mother, who stands outside of the room, opens the stereoscopic card in her hands. She gazes to the room surrounded by shutters through the window in the card.
